Some chains sell a numbered inspection. We would rather tell you exactly what we look at during every oil change, and what happens if we find something: if a filter is dirty or a fluid is worn, we hold it up and tell you. If it is fine, it goes back in and you hear nothing about it.

A free visual brake inspection comes with every oil change: pad thickness, rotor condition, and brake fluid. If the pads are worn we quote the job and explain it. If they are fine, you hear that instead.
Worn transmission fluid shifts harder, runs hotter, and is the usual start of a transmission repair bill. We check the fluid on the dipstick first. If it is moderately worn we exchange it for the fluid your manufacturer specifies; if it is already burnt black, the safer move on a high-mileage transmission is to leave it alone rather than flush it.
Coolant loses its corrosion protection long before it stops cooling, and the water pump and radiator pay for it. We look at the coolant in the reservoir, and if it is rusty or past your manual's interval we exchange it for the coolant type your engine was built for.
A pump that groans on cold mornings or steering that has gone heavy at parking speed usually means the fluid is dark and worn. We exchange it for the fluid your manufacturer specifies. If your car has electric power steering, there is no fluid to change and we will tell you so.
Rear-wheel, all-wheel, and four-wheel drive vehicles carry gear oil in a differential that has no filter, so wear metal stays in it until it is drained. Trucks that tow need it sooner. We refill with the gear oil weight your manufacturer lists, including limited-slip additive where required.
The engine air filter keeps dust and leaves out of the engine; the cabin air filter cleans the air coming through your vents. We pull both and hold them up for you during the oil change. Dirty ones get replaced while you sit in the car. Clean ones go back in for free.
Peninsula summers bake wiper rubber, and most people find out in the first November storm. We check the blades at every oil change, fit new ones sized for your windshield in a few minutes, and top off the washer fluid at no charge.

We look at the fluid first. If it is clean and you are inside the interval in your owner's manual, we tell you to wait. If it is dark, burnt, or past the interval, we tell you it is due and quote it. We do not sell services off a mileage chart.
